Lesson 1: An introduction to Web design

Before I start with the web designing lessons, first lets elaborate a bit on what a “web designer” is. A web designer is responsible for the front end development of a web site. Front end development includes the structuring and styling of the web pages.

As a beginner, a web designer needs a browser and an editor. The best browsers developers use are firefox, chrome and safari. And sublime or notepad could be used as editors.

Internet is the global network of networks and not a psychical entity like one would think. And world wide web is a model built on top of internet. How the data is passed through these networks is the protocols defined by the protocols used by world wide web. HTTP is one of the most popular protocol used to transfer data on the internet.

As described by wikipedia, “HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. With Cascading Style Sheets(CSS), and JavaScript, it forms a triad of cornerstone technologies for the World Wide WebWeb browsers receive HTML documents from a webserver or from local storage and render them into multimedia web pages. HTML describes the structure of a web page semantically and originally included cues for the appearance of the document.”

In the next lesson we have a deeper look at HTML.
